Your photo stays private — all processing happens in your browser. Why make passport photos in the browser?
Most passport-photo sites upload your picture to a server to crop and edit it. That means a copy of your biometric photo sits on someone else's machine. This tool runs a WebAssembly segmentation model (background removal + face landmarks) directly on your device. The image is never transmitted, and processing costs you nothing — the work is done by your own phone or laptop.
Frequently asked questions
Does my photo get uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs 100% in your browser. Background removal uses a WebAssembly segmentation model (ISNet via ONNX Runtime Web) that executes on your device — your photo never leaves it. You can verify this in DevTools by watching the network tab.
What countries are supported?
US, UK, Canada, India, the Schengen (EU) area, and Australia, each with the correct dimensions, DPI, background colour, and face-position rules. More are added from ICAO and consular guidance over time.
How do I position my face in the guides?
After the background is removed, use "Auto-fit face" to snap your face into the guideline frame, then fine-tune by dragging the photo and using the zoom/rotate sliders so your eyes sit on the eye line and your head fills the ellipse. The guides are just helpers — untick "Show guides" before downloading if you prefer.
Will my photo definitely be accepted?
The tool helps you meet size, background, and face-position rules, but acceptance also depends on lighting, expression, glasses, and headwear. Always verify the final photo against the official government specification.
What if the AI model does not load?
The tool degrades gracefully: if the segmentation model cannot download, it still crops, resizes, and lets you manually position the photo using the Canvas, so you always get a correctly sized image.
Can I print these at a photo lab?
Yes. Pick the 4x6 or 5x7 print-sheet layout — the tool tiles your photo (US 2x2in gives 6 copies; 35x45mm gives 6 on 4x6 or 9 on 5x7) onto a standard print size at 300 DPI with dashed cut lines, so you can print at any lab, cut along the lines, and get correctly sized photos. Labs generally want 300 DPI minimum and a high-quality JPG (use the quality slider).
